Hey, folks! This is just a quick announcement to keep you all up to date on our weekly chronic illness / disabilities peer support group. Since Spatial has been having so many issues with stability and other dealbreaking issues keeping us from having a smooth experience hosting our meetups there, we’ve decided to move our weekly meetup from Spatial to our discord server until Spatial improves, or we find another metaverse platform that is easily accessible on any device.
Our Discord server has already been an excellent place to connect, vent, share ideas and resources, and just hang out, so this is an easy transition for many of us in the group who are already familiar with it, but if you need any help navigating the server, please don’t hesitate to reach out to Sunny (InsomniaDoodles) for assistance! I don’t want anyone to be left out of the group just because you don’t know how to navigate Discord yet. I know the platform can seem really daunting and overwhelming at first glance, but I promise once you get the hang of it, it’s actually a lot easier than it looks.

We will continue to have a presence on Spatial!
Even though Spatial isn’t currently the right fit for structured meetup events, it’s still a great social VR platform, and we will continue to keep our community art gallery, hangout space, and the old meeting space available for you to access! We even have a space where folks can go to learn about our group, though that’s still a work in progress.
I really hope Spatial improves. We tried hosting our group meetup there several weeks, and the bugs only got worse, and I was sorely missing the moderation tools necessary for keeping an event running smoothly, like a “raise hand” queue that allows me to call on people in the order they requested to be called on for introductions and check-ins. I’m impressed by the worldbuilding tools Spatial has, but it’s just not the right fit for structured events as it is now. Until that changes, we’ll just have our weekly meetups on Discord.
I’ve already updated our calendar events and other places on our website as well as our Facebook group to reflect the change so folks can find the links to join us on Discord for our meetups.
